The Week That Was

This week saw the end of our UOI on the transdisciplinary theme of 'Where we are in place and time' which focused on communication.  In particular:
  • How we communicate with others.
  • How communication influences our lives.
  • The mutual responsibility when communicating.
  • A look back at how communication has changed and continues to do so.
On Thursday the students had their opportunity to share their communication projects.  Those students who accessed the Rubric shared on Edmodo had a clear understanding of the task requirements and what they were going to be assessed on.

The main two forms of presentation were:
  • Keynote presentation
  • iMovie video
The students who used Keynote were encouraged to minimize the amount of text on the screen and make sure that what was shown, had a specific purpose and impact.  Therefore, these students had to thoroughly know what they were talking about, and rehearsal was essential in ensuring success.

The students who had opted for the the iMovie presentation were also asked to use a storyboard template to plan the specific scenes that were to be filmed.  Those students with a detailed plan were able to clearly organise their film and ensure a movie that engaged the audience while including the specific criteria.

In mathematics the students have continued to explore Perimeter, Area and Volume or PAV as 6A are referring to it.  Within each area, students are being asked to apply their knowledge and understanding to conduct investigations.  6A have been accessing Moodle, (a Virtual Learning Environment) to view video tutorials, access tasks, definitions and comment.

In Language we have collectively completed our KICS non-chronological eBook report which was shared during class.  Now the students are planning, (using Inspiration) their own eBook report on an area of interest or expertise.   Some of the topics include:
  • Swimming
  • Dogs
  • Ice cream
  • Minecraft
We look forward to seeing what unfolds in the coming weeks and sharing these eBooks with the KICS community.

This week we started our buddy reading with Year 1 and the students are trying to help our buddies to develop their word attack skills by exploring and discussing the pictures on the page before reading.

Here are some pictures and tweets from the week.
