The Student Led Conference (SLC) within any PYP school is a major event on the calendar and today's at KICS was no different.
The SLC is an opportunity for the student to accept personal responsibility for reporting their academic and social progress to their parents. It provides them with an chance to discuss their goals, share their learning over time through the use of their digital portfolios and celebrate their achievements in a constructive and supportive environment.

“Student-led conferences involve the student and the parents. The students are responsible for leading the conference, and also take responsibility for their learning by sharing the process with their parents… The conference involves the student discussing and reflecting upon samples of work that they have previously chosen to share with their parents. These samples have been previously selected with guidance and support from the teacher, and could be from the student’s portfolio.”
- Making the PYP happen: A curriculum framework for international primary education, 2009, pg 52.As the class teacher, it was wonderful to sit back and listen to the conversations going on between the student and parent(s). For most students, this task of taking control and leading the process was familiar so they were comfortable and confident in this role. Having done some role play the previous day certainly helped alleviate fears and put those new to this conference format at ease.
