WELCOME MESSAGE FROM YEAR 6 TEAM
Hello and welcome to the Year 6 Blog. My name is Mr. Rick and I’ll be teaching both the 6A and 6B sections until Mr. Donovan returns from paternity leave. Thus far I am very impressed with the eagerness to learn and the kind nature of all the Year 6 students.
This week we engaged in a variety of creative team building activities to help us prepare for the school year.
Students were challenged by table to create the tallest structure possible using 3 marshmallows, 3 pieces of spaghetti and 1 piece of tape. Afterwards, they predicated what would happen if they doubled the ingredients before attempting construction. This Thursday there is a 6A vs.6B challenge using packages of marshmallows and spaghetti as well as a role of tape to construct the tallest and most “aesthetically” pleasing structure possible. Mr. Brian, Miss Olena and myself will be the judges.
In Math we reviewed the number system: place value, ordering, comparing and rounding numbers. We also gave a “Mad Minute” math test on math computation facts. I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone how important it is that they can recall these facts as easily as they recall their name!
We have also begun our first unit of inquiry: Healthy Mind / Healthy Body. More information will appear on this next week.
We are all looking forward to meeting you on August 28th!
